"This series of cinematic vignettes explores the temporal nature of subjective experience through a meticulously assembled layering of psychological, historical and cultural symbols. The artifice of domesticity, the quiet isolation of liminal states and the inevitability of mortality are articulated through a constructed reality composed of visual metaphors.
Setting is elevated to a role equal to the characters; the architecture and symbolism of the hotel echo the themes of the works. Location functions not merely as a nondescript backdrop, but rather, these liminal spaces transcend architectural form, becoming a metaphor that reifies the overarching motif of mortality and transience. Ontologically, the shared suites of hotels board the intimacies of a revolving cast of occupants; symbolically illustrating the commonality of experience and impermanence, and also, the intrinsic isolation in which they transpires.
The poetics of hotels – at once universal and subjectively intimate- attempt to elicit a sense of familiarity in the viewer; allowing them to project themselves within the narrative. This subjective recognition of space and symbology - depicted through a sentimentalized visual vocabulary-is intended to be a paradoxical seduction into the macabre subject. Simultaneously alluring and repulsing, this juxtaposition of idealized aesthetics and culturally sublimated topics attempts to confirm the discontinuity of both the subject, and the viewer."
