latex supposition pt.II

2011

digital video loop, projection, single channel audio, latex balloons. 05:31 minutes

***TRIGGER WARNING - Death, Violence Suicide, War, Murder*** Latex Supposition Pt. 2 was an extension of Latex Supposition Pt. 1 , an edition of 100 distressed Red Balloon Silk Screen prints on paper. The prints hung like minimalistic advertisements leading viewers down a darkened hallway which played a looped projection of Latex Supposition Pt. 2. Using digital historical archival footage from 8 heavily broadcast worldwide events from 1941 to 2010 the viewer is faced with the reality of their world trapped within the confines of a red latex balloon. Sounds of latex balloons being inflation were played in tandem with each video segment. The conclusioon of each video segment was met with the sound of a balloon popping and  a flash cut to white. When the balloons pop, I hoped to snap the viewer back into their own reality, where they could reflect on the horrors of humanity that have been etched into their minds through the use of national public broadcast systems. I am thinking through concepts like loss of innocence, especially when considering children's exposure to extreme violence through media.
