This kinetic sculpture was conceived while investigating the topic of the Hyper-Object introduced in winter 2024 by professor Sophia Oppel. Upon contemplation of the ideas of the soul (as both a micro and macro entity) existing not just as individual, but simultaneously collective / & the experience of regeneration through the cyclical nature (reincarnation) of both physical (body) and spiritual (conscious). I translated this thought into visual, kinetic and auditory expression. The gentle meditative hum of the machines’ motor whirs, lifting a single soul up through the cloud top. Its transcendent state is maintained temporarily, as soon, the machine will toss it back towards earth. At the summit of this cycle, in free-fall, the soul disappears below the clouds. A metallic clang rings loud upon impact. The soul awaits its return to transcendence, endlessly cycling through these states.
